American Industrial Hygiene Association Case Study

Managing the Destination

Client: American Industrial Hygiene Association
Event: AIHce Annual Meeting

Objective

To provide well traveled convention attendees and their companions a unique Philadelphia experience through tours, activities, 5K Fun Run and general session entertainment.

The Program

AIHA is one of the largest international associations serving the needs of occupational and environmental health professionals practicing industrial hygiene in industry, government, labor, academic institutions, and independent organizations.  The group is well traveled and strives to make each annual convention’s programming focus on flavors of the destination city, creating memories that will span long after the convention.

Arriving to the Pennsylvania Convention Center each morning convention attendees were treated to local pieces of entertainment; including Fife & Drum to showcase Philadelphia’s history, a youth Gospel Choir to showcase local youth initiatives, and a Mummers String band to give each attendee a taste of Philadelphia’s fun side.

The 5K Fun Run allowed convention attendees a beautiful morning to experience picturesque Boat House Row, while participating in fundraising and awareness for their Foundation.  Transportation to and from Kelly Drive, as well as strategic race coordination made this a successful event for the association’s Foundation efforts.

In addition to gathering to share ideas and business strategy, attendees use the annual convention as an opportunity to socialize and network with colleagues.  Our custom tour program created a venue for attendees to gather together and experience many aspects of Philadelphia.

Many attendees also bring spouses and companions to share in the socializing network that the convention atmosphere creates.  The optional spousal activity program granted these companions behind the scene access to some of Philadelphia’s greatest attractions such as area museums, shopping, city tours and more.

Through strategic planning and development of custom tours, spousal activities, a 5K Fun Run, and general session entertainment, Roberts Event Group, Inc. created a uniquely Philadelphia experience for the AIHce Annual Meeting.

The Response

“As I mentioned to you at the pre-con, I appreciated your making us feel as though our “little program” was important to you…It was nice having you worry about the details so we didn’t have to…I especially want to thank you for getting up so early to honcho the General Session entertainment. I enjoyed each act and I’m sure our audience did too. I particularly liked the mummers.  I know most Philadelphians consider them “touristy”, but I thought they were lots of fun!”
