Event: 2009 Convention – Philadelphia Bandstand Party

Objective

To create an atmosphere that would keep an anticipated 5,000 + guests entertained for the gala event of the SunGard Higher Education 2009 User’s Conference.

The Program

SunGard Higher Education provides services and hosts user’s conferences all over the world.  For the 2009 conference, taking place in their headquarter Philadelphia, they wanted to be sure to treat guests to a taste of the city and keep them entertained all night.

Roberts Event Group, Inc. created a Philadelphia Bandstand Party, in celebration of Philadelphia as the  birthplace of American Bandstand.  The entire room was decked out in decade theme with 50′s, 60′s and 70′s decor and entertainment.  Look-a-likes kepts heads turning as the likes of Sonny and Cher, Rocky, and Austin Powers worked the room. Guests could enter the pinball arcade, get an airbrush tattoo, get their hair styled by Helen’s beauty parlor, audition for the Bandstand Idol or grab a malt with Vinny the Diner Guy.  Everywhere you looked there was another reminder of the Bandstand era!

On stage was a Dick Clark like emcee and the Party Dolls, a decades style party band that kept everyone on their feet.  The headline act of the night was none other than Chubby Checker.  He put on such a great performance that he had the whole crowd doing the twist!

Some guests came in poodle skirts or greaser looks to fit right in with the party.  Others got right up on stage to try and win the hula hoop contest.  Everyone took a trip back to those fabulous days in Philadelphia and the birth of the hottest TV dance party!
