Are you following USA250?  I have been personally following for over a year, and am impressed with the momentum they are building in preparation for America’s 250th Birthday celebration in 2026.  Here is the note from Jon Grabelle Herrmann, Executive Director, of USA250 as well as links for you to get involved & to stay in the know

From Jon Grabelle Hermann:

Yesterday marked the 241st anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. It was a fitting moment for a bipartisan team of legislators to introduce in Congress the United States Semiquincentennial Commission Act.

The proposal to launch national plans for America’s 250th anniversary is led by Senators Robert Casey, Patrick Toomey, and Sheldon Whitehouse; and in the House by Representatives Patrick Meehan, Robert Brady, Brendan Boyle, Ryan Costello, and Chaka Fattah.

Imagine that, in 2026:

  • The Mint circulates a $2.50 coin, a Semiquin update of 1976’s $2 bill.
  • Today’s 2nd-graders, the Class of 2026, have doubled new voter participation following a multi-year, nonpartisan campaign.
  • Visitors “tour” all 50 states at a national block party in Philadelphia.
  • 25 million Americans digitally check-in on July 4th, joining a unified celebration held in cities and towns across the country

If passed into law, the 32-member commission of public officials and private citizens will solicit ideas like these and submit recommendations to the President and to Congress within two years.’s overview sums it up:

“While the proposed commission by lawmakers is meant to organize national leaders for the Semiquincentennial, USA250 is working on a pitch to show why there’s value in having a central destination for millions of Americans to flock to in 2026.”

We don’t yet know if millions of Americans will flock to a central 250th destination. But we do know that they won’t participate unless we have taken the time to develop the plans, partnerships, consensus, and resources to build a unifying and renewing experience for the country.

Let the planning begin!
